FMF Juglaret's Chocolate Baetis Nymph

NEW FOR 2026

FMF Juglaret's Chocolate Baetis Nymph is a particularly effective mayfly nymph during hatches of small mayflies such as BWO (Blue-Winged Olive).

The translucent body is highly effective on difficult, spooky fish in clear water.

Designed for sight fishing in deeper water, whether in NZ-style or European-style nymphing, this pattern truly excels when fished straight upstream, especially when used as a dropper.

The copper bead version is ideal for fishing acidic, tea-coloured waters.

A black dot on the bead reduces excessive shine—essential on heavily pressured waters—while still producing subtle flashes during movement.

FMF Juglaret's Chocolate Baetis Nymph is available in 3 sizes: #16, #18 & #20 to cover all nymphing strategy situations.

Detailed description and concept:

Expertise in acidic and stained waters
While the Olive variant dominates clear limestone streams, the FMF Juglaret's Chocolate Baetis Nymph excels in acidic, peaty, or tea-colored rivers.
Its dark-toned body and copper bead provide a natural contrast perfectly suited to low-light, high-tannin environments.
This subtle combination triggers trout aggression where bright gold or silver beads would appear unnaturally intrusive.

Mimicry and controlled translucence
Designed to imitate dark-toned mayfly nymphs (Baetis, Blue Winged Olive types), this pattern features a translucent resin-coated body.
This structure allows ambient light to pass and diffuse through the material, giving the fly a lifelike, gelatinous transparency that perfectly replicates hydrated insect cuticles.
Such optical realism is decisive for tempting educated fish in low-clear or low-flow conditions.

"Stealth Bead" technology
On oversensitive or heavily pressured waters, excessive flash can instantly spook fish.
To prevent this, the FMF Juglaret's Chocolate Baetis Nymph incorporates a subtle black spot on the copper bead, reducing glare while producing fine, intermittent micro-flashes during drift.
The result is a dynamic yet discreet visual cue, evoking the sporadic motion of aquatic larvae or nymphs without triggering suspicion.

Technical versatility and hydrodynamic efficiency
Engineered for fast water penetration and stable drift, this nymph quickly reaches the strike zone while maintaining control and contact.
It performs exceptionally well in multiple techniques:
• Upstream nymphing: rapid descent and stable dead-drift.
• New Zealand rig: natural dropper presentation beneath a dry or heavier nymph.
• Tight-line nymphing (Euro Nymphing): precise control for fine approaches in deep or clear streams.

Uniting stealth, optical realism, and efficiency, the FMF Juglaret's Chocolate Baetis Nymph stands as a benchmark pattern for anglers fishing under low-light, acidic, or tannin-stained conditions.
