FMF Juglaret's Flashback Possum Tail Copper Nymph

NEW FOR 2026

FMF Juglaret's Flashback Possum Tail Copper is an attractor nymph that features a flashy back and is designed for European-style or NZ-style nymphing.

It is particularly effective in bright sunlight over dark riverbeds, or when fishing tea-coloured water.

This pattern is extremely effective when fished on a dead drift. A black dot on the bead reduces unwanted shine—essential on pressured rivers—while still producing subtle flashes during animation.

FMF Juglaret's Flashback Possum Tail Copper Nymph is available in 3 sizes: #16, #18 & #20 to cover all nymphing strategy situations.

Detailed description and concept:

A modern benchmark for high-contrast waters
The Juglaret’s Flashback Possum Tail Copper is a barbless river nymph crafted by Fulling Mill to perform under conditions where silver or gold-based patterns lose their efficiency.
This fly acts as a refined attractor, designed to provoke reaction strikes while maintaining a natural optical and tactile realism, aligning with modern technical fishing principles.

Mastering light and contrast
Unlike the Silver variant, the Copper model is engineered for bright-light environments with dark substrates — volcanic rock, shale beds, brown algae bottoms, or humic (“tea-colored”) waters.
The warmer copper hue delivers a balanced and natural visual contrast, cutting through darker backgrounds without producing unnatural glare.
This calibrated warm-spectrum reflectance enhances visibility while remaining biologically consistent with natural prey signals.

Dead drift precision
The Possum Tail Copper excels under a pure dead-drift presentation, requiring no active animation.
Its natural fiber composition (possum tail dubbing, fine thorax, subtle flashback) interacts with the current to reproduce the delicate oscillations of drifting nymphs.
This passive mimicry dynamic is particularly effective on bottom-feeding fish during selective feeding phases.

Optical “Black Dot” technology
A strategically placed black dot on the tungsten bead disrupts the regular flash of light.
This controlled irregularity creates soft, intermittent micro-flashes, offering a lifelike visual vibration rather than a harsh reflection.
It ensures an ideal equilibrium between visibility for the angler and stealth for the fish — a feature highly valued on pressured rivers.

Field advice
Best suited for slightly stained water, either after rain or in peaty environments, this dense pattern penetrates quickly to the strike zone.
Rig it as a point fly for fast descent, or as an upper dropper below a lighter fly.
Focus on natural, drag-free drifts close to the substrate — strikes often occur on perfectly inert passages, the Copper version’s hallmark moment.
