Unlike most gammarus imitations, these three patterns are relatively heavy, allowing them to be fished effectively in deep or fast water.

Best suited to NZ-style or sight fishing, they truly excel when conditions allow for European-style nymphing.

FMF Juglaret's French Gammarus are available in three colours (Brown, Orange, Yellow), each designed for a specific set of conditions and 3 hook sizes: #14, #16, #18

A technical scud for deep-water precision

The Juglaret’s French Gammarus Orange is not just another crustacean imitation.
Developed by Fulling Mill for technical anglers and competitors, it features a carefully weighted, high-density body that enables efficient exploration of deep currents and powerful streams.
It’s a purpose-built design aimed at maintaining constant contact with the strike zone, where the biggest trout and grayling typically feed.

This nymph is exceptional when fish are holding tight to the bottom.
Its compact, hydrodynamic profile and precise weighting allow it to cut through the water column instantly, reaching the strike zone without unnecessary drift time.
This balance ensures natural and stable presentation across current layers with minimal drag interference.

Recommended techniques

Euro/French Nymphing: dense enough to maintain contact and depth control in heavy flows, ideal for bottom-feeding trout.
Sight fishing or tandem rigs: performs perfectly under a dry or indicator fly, preserving natural drift and ensuring visibility.

This nymph offers outstanding line tension, drift precision, and adaptability for modern technical conditions.

The “Orange” color logic

The orange tone serves both mimetic and stimulative purposes:

Mimicry: reproduces the natural pigmentation of Gammarus during reproductive cycles or in peaty, slightly stained water.
Attractor function: acts as a subtle visual hot spot, providing a controlled flash that elicits reflex strikes, even in transparent water.

Field advice

Always adjust your scud color to match the substrate and local crustaceans in the river.
