A deceiver in blue and white is a classic bass pattern. This variation from top saltwater angler Darren Jackson features quite a few flashy highlights.

Try using this design on a bright sunny day when the light from the sun will really reflect off the pattern making it highly attractive to the fish.

My professional and personal choice as a fly fishing guide specialized in saltwater fly fishing for European sea bass.

Tips for use
This is an easy to cast fly with rods weights of 7 to 10 and special intermediate sea bass lines, but also with sinking lines.

Attach a looped knot to the end of the leader to improve its action (Perfection loop & Homer Rhode knots).

Ideally a Rio and SA type SW fluorocarbon tippet from 10 to 20 lbs.

The line should be retrieved rod tip underwater, with long, pulls on the line, so as to make the fly glide and imitate the natural swimming of the baitfish.

Sometimes the two-handed “rolly polly” retrieve with the rod under the arm is the most effective way to trigger the attack of European sea bass.

The strike is generally straightforward and violent.
