The Mayfly Spinner is an excellent imitation of the Mayfly (Ephemera danica) in the "spent" stage, the "spent gnat" of the Irish, i.e. the dying insect having completed its aerial reproductive cycle and deposited its eggs in the surface film of lakes or rivers.

When the Mayfly have completed mating after their brief life they die and often fall back on the water.

This pattern should be treated with floatant (type Loon Aquel, High N Dry, CF Power Float, FM Dry Sauce) and left static on the surface amongst the dying naturals.
