Return of a classic
Our original Coastal fly line quickly became a benchmark among fly lines for coastal anglers.
The updated model, now called Coastal Classic, retains the same overall characteristics and design as the original line. It cuts through wind with ease and delivers excellent distance when needed.
The total head length and taper layout make this line very easy to cast, regardless of skill level.
Optimal density & core
Coastal Classic features a density-compensated formula in the head that creates a perfectly uniform sinking profile.
Even though the tip of the fly line is thinner than the belly, the entire head sinks in a straight line without sag.
This ensures better contact with your fly, and combined with a 6% low-stretch core, you get more positive and tactile strike detection - even on long casts and subtle takes.
The new coating formula makes these lines even more supple in cold climates and provides very low memory for effortless line release without tangles.
Just like the previous model, Coastal Classic is available in both Slow and Fast Intermediate versions.
Whether you’re fishing really shallow coastal areas or need to get down a bit deeper, there’s a density to fit your needs.
Taper design
Coastal Classic shares the same ideal taper as the original Coastal, with identical lengths and weights.
Minor tweaks to the taper, combined with new materials, make these lines an extremely valuable tool in the pursuit of coastal species such as sea-run browns, sea bass, or stripers.
The total head length of 11.4 meters includes a back taper of 2 m / 6.5 ft, allowing you to carry a good amount of line in the air for long casts or quickly deliver a cast with the back taper still inside the rod tip.
The level belly generates excellent energy transfer, while the front taper is long enough for smooth presentations yet powerful enough to turn over larger flies in windy conditions.
Adjusted head profile
The main taper adjustment is an additional 1 m / 3.3 ft added to the back taper, making the line more stable when carrying longer lengths and improving presentation on long casts better than ever before.
If you prefer to carry the full head, or even a bit extra length, we strongly recommend using a #6 line on a #6 rod.
However, if you prefer a “quick load, quick shoot” style with minimal false casting, you can easily use a #7 line on your #6 rod to gain more direct weight on a shorter line length.
Choosing a higher line weight will give you more of the desired load with less line outside the rod tip, though personal preference and rod model choice also play a role here.
