The most powerful of the Brittany Fly Fishing saltwater rod series, the Seabass & Pike Nine “Roadstead of Brest” 9’0”#9/10 has mainly been designed to fly fish for pike, which I like to chase. It has also demonstrated its great values for tropical predators in the Bijagos archipelago for Jack Crevalle and bigger snappers. This rod is undoubtably suitable for tarpon, medium size GT and others saltwater beasts.

I have developed a real passion for Esox lucius and been in love with the species for nearly 4 decades.
The rod can take heavy lines that can transport the biggest of pike streamers, in excess of 25 cm, including all those of the “tailed” persuasion (wiggle tails, dragon tails,…) ; no matter whether the lines are floaters, intermediates or heavy sinkers… they just go !
For a 9-weight rod, it is remarkably lightweight with extreme performances: beyond its pike application, it is a great rod to fish for flats species up to 40 lbs.

As an option, the Seabass & Pike Nine “Roadstead of Brest” 9’0”#9/10 can be ordered with a spare tip sections (+100€).

My advice
This powerful rod is a line cannon that I use for both pike fishing as well as dregding for sea bass slinging fast sinking hybrid lines into an incoming tide and current onto submerged rock formations where the big boys roam (10 to 12 lbs in terms of fly angler sea bass targets).

The rod will work fine with sinking lines up to 400 grains.

Besides dredging, it is an excellent rod for all exotic marine species that can be found on the flats up to 40 lbs (permit, baby tarpon, mutton snapper, snook, jacks,…) as well as coldwater species like stripers, bluefish, false albacore, …).

It’s obvious that it should be paired with a performance reel with an excellent drag system that can withstand all the rigors of the marine environment.
