For the record, this is a product made from a plate/leaf made from Amadouvier (Polyporus fomentarius), a fungus that is a parasite of dead wood (ash, willow, oak, poplar)
Instructions for use
A Devaux DVX Maxi Amadou Leather Clip, if used correctly, can last for several years.
I use it in 3 steps, mainly in rivers to dry delicate dry flies such as CDC, but not only because I also use it during my lake guiding to dry quite big dry flies such as Daddyhog, CDC (Bristol) Hoppers and all emerging chironomids such as shuttlecock (the CDC wing must float perfectly)
Step 1:
Squeeze the soaked fly into the Devaux DVX Maxi Amadou Leather Clip as you would a tissue or paper towel.
If the fly is soaking wet, the water in the fibres will have been removed beforehand by making quick false casts.
You can also use powdered desiccants such as High N Dry, Loon and Tiemco Shimazaki.
Step 2: Then coat the fly with the appropriate product:
Fluid for CDC : Loon Lochsa, Tiemco Dry Magic
More viscous for stiffer fibres (deer, cock/rooster, floating synthetic materials..): Loon Aquel & Royal Gel, High N Dry floating gel, C&F Design Power Float.
The fly can also be immersed in floating liquids: High N Dry Liquid Float, Tiemco Dry Dip Super & Dry Shake Liquid
Step 3:
Press the fly coated with hydrophobic product back into the Devaux DVX Maxi Amadou Leather Clip to remove the excess and prevent the fly from being weighed down by these products.
The Devaux DVX Maxi Amadou Leather Clip is also used to dress the fly: straightening/airing the CDC wing fibres.
These three steps take barely a minute.
They allow to give back all its efficiency to the artificial fly which will float high on the water (if it corresponds to the type of fly used), will be more visible for the fisherman and will find its original silhouette, for an optimal efficiency, particularly for the imitations of dun and spinner mayflies.
