DK Flies TRS Scarabig Black

The TRS Scarabig Black is a black EVA foam beetle imitation designed for summer fishing for wild trout in rivers whenterrestrial insects are on the menu along tree-lined and grassy banks.

This model is large enough (size #12) to make a nice plopping sound when it hits the water, attracting the attention of resident and migratory brown trout (as well as chub).

The elastic legs generate vibrations that increase the attractiveness of these imitations.

Tips for use:
When the fly hits the water, two scenarios are possible:

-The fly is violently swallowed a fraction of a second after landing, which means that the fish was very close by.
This is most often the case in narrow spots: immediately upstream of a branch, a rock, a small pool at the edge, and any other underwater feature that keeps the fish in a relatively stationary position.

-Nothing happens for a few seconds apart from the concentric ripples caused by the impact.
Then the fly disappears in a discreet rise, or gives the impression of sinking.

This is often the case on calm, shaded edges, even those almost untouched by light, well away from the current.

In this type of spot, trout occupy a large territory, which they patrol quietly, waiting for their meal to fall.

In this case, the best fish are often the ones that inspect the artificial fly before deciding to strike. With reluctant or educated fish, it is worth giving the fly a very slight ‘pop’ to trigger the attack.

In all cases, the hook setting must be firm but not too fast, as the fish often keep the beetles in their mouths to crush the elytra before swallowing them.

When striking on the reflex with the rod high, many fish are missed or lost. It is advisable to keep the rod low, parallel to the surface with the line and leader taut.

You rarely go below 0.15 or 0.16mm for the tippet for this type of fishing with #12 terrestrials.

An 0.18 mm is even recommended for larger models.
